Conservation, Trout Unlimited, Emerald Necklace Chapter
Our members join TU because of its focus on conservation. The money that we raise is used to fund Chapter projects and donations to conservation focused organizations. If you are interested in hands-on participation in projects related to conservation and our local fisheries, please read about our past and current projects on this page. If you have a suggestion for a project or are interested in participating, please contact the Chapter President from the Contacts page. Conservation Concerns & Partnerships Our Chapter's mission is to make people aware of conservation issues in our area or about other conservation organizations with whom we have partnered.
Madmen TU Chapter - Located in the Springfield/Dayton area. Home waters are the Mad River in SW Ohio.
Clear Fork TU Chapter - Located in the Wooster area. Home waters are the Clear Fork River near Mohican State Park. The Chapter is actively involved in stocking efforts in Apple Creek in Wooster.
WESTERN RESERVE LAND CONSERVANCY - Eight northeast Ohio land-preservation groups have merged into one regional entity that, as of January 1, 2006, began doing business as Western Reserve Land Conservancy (WRLC). The Chagrin River Land Conservancy, is the largest of the merging groups and the other members include the Bratenahl Land Conservancy, Firelands Land Conservancy, Headwaters Land Trust, Hudson Land Conservancy, Medina Summit Land Conservancy, Portage Land Association for Conservation and Education (PLACE), and Tinkers Creek Land Conservancy. The WRLC aims to protect forests, farms, wetlands and other natural areas in a 14-county area stretching from Ashtabula, Trumbull and Mahoning counties in the east, to Erie and Huron counties in the west, and also includes the counties of Geauga, Portage, Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Summit, Stark, and Wayne.
CUYAHOGA SOIL and WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT - CSWCD promotes conservation of land and aquatic resources in a developed environment (Greater Cleveland Area) through stewardship initiatives, education programs and technical assistance.
OHIO DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES - State Department responsible for so much of what impacts our fisheries and watersheds.
GEAUGA PARK DISTRICT - We are currently seeking ways to increase involvement to maintain protection of Ohio's Brook Trout habitat by partnering with Geauga Park District in their upcoming efforts to increase stream stockings and create educational opportunities for young people to study these magnificent wild and native trout. ODNR's project to stock Brook Trout in local streams has ended, but the Geauga Park District along with several other organizations is working to continue this initiative.
Save Our Stream - Save Our Stream is an environmental education and outreach group that was pioneered in 2003 and consists of three 10th grade students from Hawken Upper School in Gates Mills Ohio. Their mission is to educate the public about the sensitive Native Ohio Brook Trout population in a fragile environment and enlist their effort to protect the Chagrin River Watershed it lives in. There are two main aspects to their mission. The first is the education aspect in which they are designing a curriculum for middle and high school students to help them understand the need to protect the brook trout. It will also include information about the ways members of the Brook Trout's community can preserve and protect the environment around them. The second aspect is hands-on. This aspect includes the reconstruction of habitat and plant life around streams where it has been diminished through the efforts of volunteers.
